The increase in production requires careful evaluation of the changes necessary for the expansion of data objectives. This need can be reduced to an optimization problem that requires the search for a solution to the question:


which is the configuration of the system that guarantees the achievement of the production objective with the minimum investment?
If the logical flow of production is quite simple, it is often possible to evaluate alternatives without resorting to complex calculation tools. There are, however, many cases in which the production flow is so complicated as to make an analysis not assisted by a computer prohibitive.
The complication level of a production flow has increased from the following factors:

  • The variations of the production lot are frequent and the components of the individual lots must be maintained recognizable.
  • The line must be emptied, entirely or section by section, before starting the production of each new lot.
  • For the product, the time crossing the line is high.
  • The line of emptying the line, after a lot of production, are slow.
  • There are lungs that must necessarily be sized not only in terms of skills but also of incoming and outgoing flows.
  • One or more machines in the line work in an intermittent cycle.
  • The machines that make up the line are connected by collegaem elements, for example transport, which create small lungs. The incorrect sizing of the speeds of crossing of the connections can cause dead times in the lot changes.

How to download and try Plant

  • Download the compressed file from here. Download file
  • Disappear the downloaded file by inserting the files extracted in an empty directory. If you do not have the disappearance program you can download a copy of Winzip here.
  • Double click on the Plant.exe file
  • Click on the second icon from the left, to load the example in memory. From the dialog box select the Cookies.prg file. The main screen of the program appeared as in the left figure.
  • Click on the icon that reproduces a calculator to start the simulation.
